What do Starbase Medical Clinic services cost?
Cost
Your out-of-pocket costs for non-occupational health services received at the SpaceX Health Center may vary, depending on the type of medical insurance coverage you have.
Medical EPO, PPO, Guide PPO: Services at the onsite Starbase Medical Clinic will be free ($0 copay) for you and your covered dependents (except for lab services). Specifically, patients who choose to get their lab work done onsite at the Starbase Medical Clinic will not be charged for their blood draw onsite (i.e., phlebotomy services) but will receive a separate bill for lab processing from the 3rd party lab partner (e.g., LabCorp or Quest Diagnostics) designated by your health plan.
HDHP with HSA: Preventative services, such as an annual physical exam, are free. However, in accordance with IRS rules, you must pay the full cost (or "fair market value") for non-preventative services you receive at the onsite Starbase Medical Clinic, until you satisfy your HDHP deductible. You will receive an invoice from Galileo to remit applicable payment related to your visit. After you reach your HDHP deductible, services at the onsite Starbase Medical Clinic will be free (except for lab services). Kaiser HMO: You will pay the full cost (or "fair market value") for all primary care, mental health, physical therapy, and phlebotomy services you receive at the Starbase Medical Clinic. These out-of-pocket expenses are not reimbursable under your Kaiser HMO. You will receive a separate bill directly from Galileo, which you are responsible for paying in full.
Non-SpaceX Medical Insurance: For SpaceX employees and their dependents (ages 14+) who are not actively covered under a SpaceX medical plan (e.g., waived coverage, ineligible, within waiting period, have Tricare or United Healthcare, etc), services provided at the Starbase Medical Clinic will be billed to your insurance as an out-of-network claim.
After your visit, you will receive an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from your insurance carrier. The EOB outlines your financial responsibility for the care received but is not a bill—it simply provides details on what you owe the service provider, in this case, Galileo.
You will receive a separate bill directly from Galileo, which you are responsible for paying in full.
